Identity vs outcome goals

Why You Should Stop Setting Goals (And Start Building an Identity)

It is a statistic we hear every year: 80% of New Year's resolutions fail by the second week of February.

Why is the failure rate so high? Is it because we are lazy? Is it a lack of willpower? Usually, no. The problem isn't you—it's the way you are setting your goals.

Most of us operate on Outcome-Based Goals. We focus on the result we want to achieve.

  • "I want to lose 5 kilos."

  • "I want to read 10 books."

  • "I want to lower my stress."

The problem with outcomes is that they are temporary. If you lose the 5 kilos, you might stop the healthy eating because you "crossed the finish line." If you don't lose the 5 kilos quickly, you get discouraged and quit.

This year, we want to propose a different approach for your 2026 roadmap: Identity-Based Habits.

The Difference: Outcome vs. Identity

James Clear, author of Atomic Habits, argues that true behavior change is identity change.

  • Outcome: "I want to run a marathon."

  • Identity: "I am a runner."

See the shift? If you say "I want to run a marathon," every training session feels like a chore you have to do to get the reward. If you say "I am a runner," you run because that is what runners do. You don't need to force it; you simply act in alignment with the person you believe yourself to be.

How to "Prove" Your New Identity

You can't just snap your fingers and believe you are a different person. You have to prove it to yourself with small wins.

Every action you take is a vote for the type of person you wish to become.

  • Every time you go to the gym, you cast a vote for "I am an athlete."

  • Every time you save money, you cast a vote for "I am financially responsible."

  • Every time you choose a healthy alternative, you cast a vote for "I am a healthy person."

Where Mushify Fits into Your Identity

This is where rituals come in. Supplements and health routines shouldn't be things you take to "fix" a problem; they should be rituals that reinforce your identity.

When you wake up and take a dropper of Brain Boost or Stamina Surge, you aren't just taking a supplement. You are casting a vote.

You are telling yourself: “I am the type of person who prioritizes my brain and energy.”

When you end your day with Sleep Support, you are telling yourself: “I am the type of person who respects my rest.”

These small, 30-second habits build the evidence that you are, indeed, a healthy, conscious individual. And once you believe that about yourself, the bigger habits (like diet and exercise) become infinitely easier to stick to.

Your 2026 Identity Shift

Stop looking at the finish line. Look in the mirror.

Instead of writing a list of things you want to have in 2026, write a list of who you want to be.

  • Don't say: "I want to quit procrastinating."

  • Say: "I am a focused, productive person."

  • Don't say: "I want to get fit."

  • Say: "I am an active person."

Once you embrace the identity, the habits follow naturally.
